When Can You Change a Rook Piercing?
Only change your rook piercing once it is fully healed. Be sure that all swelling and discomfort has fully subsided, usually this takes at least 6 months after your piercing. Only then should you look to change your rook piercing earring that was positioned by your piercer.
What Size Hoop for a Rook Piercing?
The standard size for a hoop to fit a rook piercing is between 6-8mm internal diameter - this is snug enough to fit securely through your rook piercing but of course the fit will depend on the individual size of your ear. The standard guage (size of the thinner part of the hoop that is placed through the rook ear cartilage is 16 Guage (1.2mm). When you have your rook pierced always check with your piercer to ensure you know what size your rook piercing is.
What to Clean Rook Piercing With?
We suggest using a saline solution on your rook piercing to ensure it stays sterile. Either purchase from your local pharmacy or you can make one yourself as it is a simple mixture of salt and water. Our key tips to ensure your rook piercing heals as quickly as it can, and to minimize any irritation (especially when sleeping) and stays clean are:
1. Avoid touching your new piercing too much, use a saline solution after you have showered to keep it clean
2. Use a hair dryer on a gentle setting, to dry the piercing after showering
3. When sleeping, use a travel pillow as this supports your head without irritating the piercing, this is great for all types of new cartilage piercings like daith and rook piercings.
